IDEA – Interdisciplinary Dynamics of English-Language Approaches – is an interdisciplinary research laboratory based at the University of Lomé, Togo. Its French institutional designation is Initiative pour la Diversité des Études Anglophones.
Established in 2022 and directed by Professor Komla M. Avono, IDEA brings together researchers committed to the study of English-language societies, cultures, literatures, discourses, and knowledge systems.
It provides an intellectually stimulating environment in which disciplinary rigor meets methodological openness, and in which African scholarship enters into meaningful dialogue with the wider world

The laboratory understands Anglophone Studies not as a closed disciplinary territory, but as an expansive field of inquiry shaped by encounters among languages, histories, cultures, media, technologies, and intellectual traditions

IDEA and Uirtus
IDEA and Uirtus share a common commitment to intellectual excellence, scholarly openness, and the international visibility of African research.
IDEA provides a vibrant environment for research development, interdisciplinary dialogue, academic mentoring, conferences, seminars, and collaborative projects. Uirtus, as an international peer-reviewed open-access journal, offers an important platform through which rigorous scholarship in the arts and humanities can be evaluated, published, preserved, and made accessible to a global readership.
