Guidelines for Authors and Reviewers

I-Guidelines for Authors

Uirtus welcomes submissions in the fields of the arts and humanities. The journal publishes articles, notes (short articles), and book reviews.

Issues
We publish three issues annually (April, August, and December)
Submissions are expected on:
     • February 28 for the April issue
     • June 30 for the August issue
     • October 31 for the December issue

Article Types and Length

  • Articles: Should ideally be approximately 6,250 words, including endnotes and works cited.
  • Notes (Short Articles): Should not exceed 2,500 words, including endnotes and works cited.

Submission Guidelines

  • Language: Submissions are accepted in both English and French.
  • Formatting: Manuscripts should be prepared following the guidelines of the eighth edition of the Modern Language Association (MLA) Manual of Style. A summary of the MLA standards is available for download on the journal’s website.
  • Content: The journal welcomes all critical approaches, from the most traditional to the most advanced. However, it generally does not publish fiction, poetry, or other writing that is not the subject of academic research.
  • Writing Quality: Uirtus values and publishes technically correct and stylistically graceful writing. The journal believes that academic prose should be pleasant to read and crystal clear.

Submission Process

  • How to Submit: Manuscripts should be submitted via email to [email protected].
  • Review Process: Upon submission, manuscripts undergo a preliminary assessment by the editorial team to ensure they fit within the journal’s scope and meet quality standards. Suitable manuscripts are then sent for double-blind peer review, where they are evaluated by at least two experts in the relevant field.
  • Decision Notification: Authors will be notified of the editorial decision, along with any reviewer comments, within a reasonable timeframe.

Plagiarism Detection

Uirtus maintains a strict policy against plagiarism in all submitted works. The journal expects all authors to submit original research, and any form of plagiarism—whether self-plagiarism or the use of others’ work without proper citation—will not be tolerated.

  • Manuscripts may be checked using plagiarism detection software.
  • Any manuscript found to contain plagiarized material will be rejected, and the author may be banned from submitting future work to the journal.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that all sources are appropriately credited and cited, and that they adhere to academic integrity standards.

Licensing and Copyright Terms

Uirtus is an open-access journal, ensuring that all published content is freely accessible to readers worldwide.

  • Licensing Terms: Authors retain copyright of their work and grant Uirtus the right to publish the article. The specific licensing terms, including any Creative Commons licenses applied, are detailed on the journal’s website.
  • Copyright Terms: Authors are responsible for ensuring that their submissions do not infringe upon any existing copyrights. Any use of third-party material within the manuscript must be appropriately credited and accompanied by necessary permissions.

Article Processing Charges (APC)

As an open-access journal, Uirtus is committed to ensuring that published research is freely accessible to the global academic community. To support the costs associated with editorial management, peer review, digital publication, and long-term archiving, the journal applies the following fee structure:

1. Submission Fee: $30 USD

This non-refundable fee is required at the time of manuscript submission. It covers administrative and technical costs related to:

    • Initial screening and eligibility assessment,
    • Reviewer assignment and coordination,
    • Communication and document handling.

Note: Manuscripts submitted without proof of payment will not be processed.

2. Article Processing Charge (APC): $70 USD

The APC is payable only upon acceptance of the manuscript for publication. It supports:

    • Editorial and peer review management,
    • DOI registration and metadata submission via Crossref,
    • Professional formatting and typesetting,
    • Online article hosting and website maintenance,
    • Indexing and digital archiving.

3. Payment Instructions

Detailed payment instructions are provided during the submission and acceptance processes. Authors are required to upload proof of payment as part of their manuscript documentation.

Payments must be made in USD. Any transfer or bank charges are the responsibility of the author.

4. Waivers and Discounts

Uirtus does not currently offer waivers or discounts for the submission fee.

Partial or full waivers of the APC may be considered in exceptional cases (e.g., for authors from low-income countries or under financial hardship). Requests must be submitted in writing at the time of initial submission and will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
